When Chad Bangerter saw Jim Green’s B-Boys open gas dragster last summer at Hot-Rod-Rama in Washington he decided he wanted to own a twin engine nostalgia dragster. Initially, Chad thought he would buy a twin engine and then modify it to make it suit his needs but he ran into a small problem, there were none for sale. Just knowing how hard these dragsters are to find made Chad want one all the more, so he started to build his own twin engine dragster. We think you will agree it was a really cool idea!
The car is a 145 inch wheel base and is built on an early 1959 Chassis Research T.E. 448 design. This dragster runs two 1959 corvette 300 hp 283ci sbc with 2 wcfbs, total of 600 h.p. and 720 ft lbs torque. That power is sent to the ground via a 1958 Pont/Olds rear end with 5.60 spool, 10 inch M/T slicks. The front end consists of 12 spoke magnesium rims and a drilled ’40 Ford axle. Fuel is delivered to the dragster from a 2.5 gallon gas tank. In 1962 this car would have competed as a AA/Dragster and the driver would have worn a silver fire suit. Chad would like to acquire a ‘60’s era fire suit to display with this car so if you have any information where he might find one contact him at chadbangerterrodz@gmail.com
The name “Double Trouble” is fitting given the twin engine nature of the car but Chad wanted this car to stand for something more so the name and the art work were borrowed from a WWII B-24 Bomber. Mike Elmer did a fantastic job with the lettering and graphics and this dragster is dedicated to all the heroes from WWII and all of our young men and women in uniform all over the world today, a big thank you to all of them.
There are several other people that Chad would like to thank for their work on this project. A big thank you goes out to IRONMAN UPOLSTERY seat cover, MIKE ELMER for the awesome art work of the b-24 bomber DOUBLE TROUBLE, dedicated to memory of our WWII heroes, Milt Priest, Jack Harris, Rex Marshall, Lake’s Fabrication and Jason and Skyler of CBRodz.
